Over 100 Nurses and Community Health Extension Workers in Ogbaru Council Area have been trained on improving healthcare services at the community level, courtesy of Hon Chukwuka Onyema representing Ogbaru Federal Constituency in the National Assembly.
The training held at Atani, attracted Health Workers drawn from the I6 Communities of Ogbaru Council Area including Okpoko, who were trained on prevention and control of Tuberculosis, Lassa Fever and other hemorrhagic fevers, HIV Awareness and Control, Appropriate Infant and Childcare Behavior among others.

The training also looked at harmful health practices in the locality such as self medication, scarification among others and what is expected of the health personnel and stakeholders towards addressing them.
The Member representing Ogbaru Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Hon Chukwuka Onyema who organised the Program, represented by the Vice Chairman, PDP Ogbaru and Director- General, Ije-Awele Campaign Organisation, Mr Vincent Eneh said the health of his constituents remain a priority to him, which was why he decided to embark on the project, noting that having good health will not only discourage capital flight but also secure lives.
He urged the Health Workers to ensure that they take the knowledge garnered to their localities to be able to impact on other workers, promising that the initiative will be sustained.
The Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr Joe Akabuike represented by the Head of Department, Disease. and Control /Immunization, State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr Nnamdi Uliagbafusi commended the initiative by the Lawmaker to partner the government to provide quality healthcare to the people, describing it as noble.

A Resource Person from Federal Medical Centre, Asaba, Dr Ann Ojimba who dwelt on prevention and control of Lassa Fever, said it is a Viral Haemorrhagic Fever with an incubation period of 5 to 21 days and similar signs and symptoms as malaria, typhoid and other fevers and suggested cleanliness, proper disposal of refuse, prevention of rodents from homes as preventive measures.
In a goodwill message, the traditional ruler of Ossomala, Victor Awogu said the program is a good representation of giving back to the society, adding that Hon Onyema has distinguished himself not only in legislative excellence but also in the way he feels concerned about the welfare of his people.
Malik Ehiedo of Nolia Consults, a partner on the project, said the multiplier effects the training will have on the health of Ogbaru people is enormous, as the trainees will go ahead to train others in their communities.
In their separate remarks, some participants, Mrs Theresa Osakwe and Mrs Patricia Chukwura acknowledged that they have been empowered to go back and do their work more effectively and efficiently.
The training also featured a practical session on hand washing.
