AWKA- The Christian Elders Consultative Assembly for Good Leadership in Nigeria, has condemned the spate of insecurity across the country, calling on the nation's leaders to take decisive action against such.
Rising from its meeting today held in Awka which centered on the State of the nation, the group expressed serious concern about happenings in the country which they said if left unaddressed, can lead to its disintegration.
The meeting was attended by top Christian leaders from various denominations as well as other stakeholders.
Briefing newsmen at the end of the meeting, the Chairman of the Assembly and Chairman, Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Bishop Moses Ezedebego identified some serious sources of worry to the group to include the Boko Haram insurgency, Herdsmen Killings, Banditry and recent upsurge in kidnapping across the country, regretting that the Federal government has not done enough to check these negative occurrence.
The group said, "we are concerned about how people are being kidnapped and murdered on our roads, the latest being the daughter of Afenifere Leader. No one feels safe in Nigeria and as leaders, we can't continue to keep mute."
On the RUGA program of the Federal Government, the Group described it as unacceptable and unconstitutional, urging the Federal Government to drop the idea in its entirety.
"Cattle rearing is a personal business, therefore it is improper to use government funds to undertake the establishment of such settlements. There are other tribes in Nigeria who specialize in various ventures and what has government done for them? We are calling for the total cancellation of that program," it said.
The group also frowned at the selective application of the law by President Muhammadu Buhari and advocated strict adherence to the principle of Federal Character as enshrined in the constitution.
They further called for the establishment of a National Day of Prayer for the whole nation to seek the face of God concerning its numerous challenges.
