Amaiyi Youths seek urgent government intervention on their bad roads

Achina -Youths under the aegis of Amaiyi Youths Assembly have called on Anambra State Government to urgently intervene in the deplorable condition of roads in the area.

During a peaceful walk to draw government’s attention towards their plight, the Youths from Achina, Enugwu Umuonyia, Umuomaku, Agbudu, Onneh and Ogboji, gathered at Ugwunganga, bearing placards with inscriptions and chanting songs of appeal to Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, to come to their aid.

According to them, the roads in question included Achina-Onneh-Agbudu-Ogboji Road awarded in 2014 by the Obiano administration and the Ezira-Umuomaku-Enugwu Umuonyia- Achina Road, flagged off in 2015 by Governor Obiano where no visible work was ongoing.

It was observed that serious gullies have started developing along the road due to incomplete drainage and improper termination of flood water along the road where work has since stopped.
Most of the buildings along the road were also threatened by the gullies while some homesteads have been abandoned due to the threat.

Reading a Communique signed by Youth Leaders of the six affected Communities, the Youth leader of Onneh Community, Mr Otitochi Okeke said the deplorable condition of the road has made it impossible for their people to access their homes and caused them untold hardship.
He commended Governor Obiano for the laudable things his government has achieved for Ndi Anambra, noting that government intervention is urgently needed on the roads to salvage their poor condition.

At Nkwo-Nkwelle Market Achina, where a major gully was developing, a trader, Mrs Helen Ezechukwu narrated how the market which was once a major one for the area, has practically been shut down due to the bad nature of the road, regretting the huge capital flight the people incur because of their inability to sell their agricultural produce.

Some other persons including Ike Francisca and Michael who also spoke on how they have been negatively affected by the bad roads, appealed to the State Government to show the affected communities genuine sense of belonging by ensuring that work commences on the roads and that they are completed in record time.
