Abba Women Protesters |
Awka- The land
dispute between Abba Community in Njikoka LGA and Ukpo in Dunukofia LGA of
Anambra State yesterday took a different dimension as women of Abba Community
led a protest to the State Government House in Awka.
Dressed in
black attire and bearing placards with different inscriptions such as “Arthur
Eze should invest his wealth in productive venture instead of dispossessing people
and communities of their lands”, “Abba is a peaceful town”, “Judiciary should
not allow itself to be compromised”, “Enough is Enough”, “We ask for due
process in our case”, among others, the protesters chanted protest songs to
register their displeasure over what they tagged “use of the Police and
Judiciary to dispossess them of their heritage.
Some of the
women, Mrs Joy Modilim and Helen Modilim, lamented how they had gone to their
usual market, Oye Abba early on the market day, only to meet armed Policemen
who asked them to go home.
According to
them, when they inquired why, the Armed men said they had orders to make sure
that Ukpo community mounted a billboard signifying that the land where the
market situates, now belongs to Ukpo Community.
Another
protester, Mrs Florence Maduabuchi regretted how the policemen used teargas to
disperse the women and arrested about 14 persons from the town including women
and children, adding that despite having been granted bail, the Police and a
certain judiciary personnel, had made it impossible for the bail conditions to
be perfected.
“Our women
were beaten, school children were shot with teargas just because we wanted to
know why we were not allowed to do our normal market business. All the wares we
took to the market were all destroyed all for no just cause. That is why we are
calling on the State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano to harken to our cry and
rescue us from our oppressors. We are peace-loving people and that is why we
have not taken laws into our hands. We gave the governor landslide victory in
our town during his reelection and this is the time for him to show us that the
confidence we reposed in him with our votes, is not misplaced’, she concluded.

Abba Women protest |
He said, “it
is imperative to state that both communities have been asked by the Supreme
court to go back to the trial court and start afresh since the records of
proceedings of an earlier judgement on the matter , is missing. Abba community
has obeyed that order of the court and gone back to court but our neighbours
for whatever reason, have decided to take the laws into their hands under the
protection of persons who feel they are above the law”.
According to
him, “all we asking is that due process be followed. Even if at the end of the
day, the Court asks us to leave our own ancestral home, we will oblige but let
the right thing be done. We appeal to our governor to use his good office to
prevail on Ukpo Community to allow the law, take its cause. As I speak now,
they have about 30 of our people on their list that they want to arrest just to
keep us in perpetual fear. That is why we have come to seek the intervention of
the State Government on the matter”.

Rep of Governor Obiano, Mr Chikodi Anarah |
Commending
the community for remaining peaceful so far, the governor urged them to
maintain the stance as his government will wade into the matter to avert wanton
destruction of lives and property.
He expressed
optimism that the matter will be easy to resolve as both communities are not
from the same local government and there are designated boundaries for all the
LGAs.
Please! I beg our honorable Governor Obiano to us his good office for the rescue of the innocent people.
ReplyDeleteArthur Eze is a devil!
ReplyDeleteThunder fire 🔫🔫your grandfather
DeleteYou are a big fool what do you Kno about ukpo and Abba thunder fire ur generation
DeleteYou are mad also Arthur Eze is more than devil ritualist like him
DeleteLet the right thing be done. We dont need all these internal problems
ReplyDeleteNice one, that's for peace to reign in Anambra. Whoever that have money should invest it wisely and not to use it to intimidate people around him or her.
ReplyDeleteSome of you ididot saying trash what do you Kno about ukpo and Abba? Keep quit ad read history connected to this situation
ReplyDeleteAuthority, every government in power, Prince Engr Arthur Eze.
ReplyDeleteDangote is a billionaire, but he has never for once snatched or in any way driven any communities property by force, instead he always dialogue with the rightful owner, either by buying it or any other means of compensation, he endsup building factories ,refineries and productive companies as well,we all should be informed that one day we shall leave this world and face judgement for our iniquity in d hand our creator ,pls don't be a victim.
ReplyDeleteSome youths of Abba Community don't know truth in the history surrounding Ukpo/Abba and Ukwulu/Abba land matter because they were told by thier elders who still live today. So, when they spread the propaganda that Arthur Eze is intimidating people with his enormous wealth; even up to the extent of influencing courts' judgements on the land in question, I deem it quite laughabl
ReplyDelete.....I deem it quite laughable. Since 1973, these matters have been in Courts. That's a whooping 46 years now. Okechukwu Adubasim entering this comment was just 8 years in 1973. Today, he's 54. Arthur Eze has been stupendously reach and wealthy and very very famous and very very influencial for like 40years now. He's been so affluential and capable of being influencial for about 2 scores of years now. So, if Arthur Eze did not intimidate or has not intimidated anybody from Abba and or Abagana Communities, nor influenced any Court cases for these 46 years, how come now? I believe these Communities did not know the much good Arthur Eze has been doing for them, to foster peaceful co-existence between Ukpo and them. Had they known, they'll gather themselves and come to thank Arthur with life cows and drinks and kola. Do you know that even after this judgements had been delivered, it was the same Arthur Eze who was pleading with Ndi Ukpo and Ndi Ukwulu that they should harmonize everything to accomodate everybody, even though they've got supperior judgements against Abba and Abagana. I recall one man objecting to Arthur's pleas with numerous supporters, but Arthur Eze insisted that they (Ukpo/Ukwulu) should not adopt this 'winner-takes-all' stance. Not untill the Abba people started all these unrully demonstrations, blackmails, vilifications, image damaging of the personality called Arthur. And we all know that he (Arthur Eze) is an 'Odogwu' with exceptional kind heart. He is not expected to keep quiet. Abba people said that Arthur Eze is already a moving corpse - that they'd celebrate his death as they celebrted Igwe Dr. W.C. Eze's death in 1991. Huuuuuu! This is the height of character damaging. Touch Dangote or any billionaire in the tail like this and see the tiger in them.
ReplyDeleteThere are, indeed, the core history these Abba youths (and Abba elites too) ought to know or ought to have known which were never told them by thier elders. Let them consult thier history before they rope themselves into uncleanable mistakes. And let me quickly say this to whoever that cares to know:, Athur Eze has not and has never and can never oppress nor suppress any body, least of all, his neighbours and friends (if you know him well). He does not, naturally possess this nature. He loves his neighbours too much. Is it not what you have that you can give? Or is not out of the much you have that you can dole out part? Arthur Eze is not wicked and name is too decent to be linked with all these negatives. Please, retrace yours steps, I beg of you.
