The Convener, Recover Nigeria Project, Comrade Osita Obi has demanded the immediate sack of former Commissioner of Police in Anambra, CP Itam Nnaghe, over what he called, 'his numerous crimes during his reign as CP.
Obi's demand is coming against the recent announcement by the State Police Command, of the escape of two suspects arrested in connection with the murder of Anambra Lawmaker, Hon Justice Azuka while in police custody.
The activist is also demanding the probe of the former CP's stewardship, insisting that he should not be rewarded for his incompetence.
Recall that the suspects were said to have escaped under CP Itam's watch and nothing was said about the development.
It was only two days after the new Anambra CP, Livingstein Orutugu assumed office, that he was informed of the development.
During a breakfast with the media, on Friday, the fiery activist described the state Police under Itam Command as extremely corrupt, calling for total overhaul of the command.
He recalled how he had raised an alarm 3 mints ago, over the corruption that was prevailing in the state police command under CP Itam, which set the state backwards by far, considering what the state had already achieved under former CP Aderemi Adeoye rtd.
He said, "I want to express my displeasure over escape of the two principal actors in the kidnap and murder of lawmaker representing Onitsha 1 constituency.
"This amounts to dog eating what is hung on its neck. Anambra people are not going to tolerate it. We're demanding an account from the police command.
"We're asking the Police Service Commission, PSC and the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, to bring back the former CP to account for these. We're demanding his immediate retirement. He should be made to bear the consequences for the havoc he caused and to render account of his stewardship."
Obi also called on Governor Chukwuma Soludo to weed out the top government officials who allegedly connived with the police in the escape of the suspects.
He emphasized the need for the new CP not to lose faith, calling on the state governor and the people of the state to avail him every needed support to succeed.
"I should also warn that this is not the opportunity to praise the new CP. I even learned that some people have gone to present an award to him. A man that's a weeks in office? We're encouraging him to reject such an award.
"We're going to monitor him and evaluate his performance. It's too early to accuse or criticize him. So far, his body movement shows he's doing well. Let's give him the necessary support he needs," Obi posited.
