A Policeman attached with "B" Division, Awka, Anambra state, was yesterday caught on camera assaulting a journalist.
According to an eye witness, the Aroma axis was heated up as a female traffic officer engaged in show of shame fighting a shuttle bus driver.
"The incident had caused commotion as both the Policewoman and the driver struggled for the steering of the vehicle. All of a sudden, I saw a traffic warden running in the direction of a man who had just brought out his phone to capture the unfolding event."
He continued, "the traffic warden immediatelystarted beating the man, requesting that he hand over his phone. The man refused, querying why he should hand him his phone. All the while, the mna did not return the slaps that was dashed out to him and this gave the police warden more aggression. All he ket saying was that he was a journalist."
Some persons around the area who witnessed the sudden turn of events, wondered wat the journalist had done wrong and not long after, another crowd started gathering, this time, in annoyance over the Policeman's harrassment.
Minutes later, some colleagues of the journalist's including the Anambra State NUJ chairman, Mr Emma Ifesinachi arrived the scene of the incident and after hearing about what transpired from the over 50 eye witnesses which exonerated the journalist, agreed to take the matter to "B" Divison to lodge a complaint to the DPO.
It was however gathered that on getting there, the officers on duty who have been briefed of what transpired, denied the journalists access to the DPO.
