2019 edition of U-13, U-17 Football Academicals organized by Fidelity Bank, ANSG ends in Anambra.

AWKA- Community Secondary School, Uga over the weekend, beat Metropolitan Secondary School, Onitsha by three goals to two, to emerge winners of the Anambra State Football Academicals Under-17 Championship.

They won the prize money of
#1,000,000 while the second place team won #250,000 and Bubendhorff Memorial Grammer School, Adazi-Nnukwu in third place with #100,000.

Also, in the under-13 category, Central School, Ekwulobia emerged winner with #500,000 prize money, while Eri Primary School, Eri and Central School, Ukpor came second and third respectively.



The finals of the Academicals which was sponsored by Anambra State Government in partnership with Fidelity Bank PLC, was played at St Mary’s Ifitedunu School Field.

Governor Willie Obiano who was represented by his Deputy, Dr Nkem Okeke said the event is a demonstration of his belief and commitment towards advancing the cause of youths in the state.




The Managing Director of Fidelity Bank, Mr Nnamdi Okonkwo while describing sports as a strong element in youths development, said the Bank is partnering on the project as a way of giving back to the society, adding that through the initiative, they also intend to curb youth restiveness by engaging them meaningfully.



For the Chairman of the State Sports Development Commission, Mr Tony Oli, the competition has helped in the discovery of quality football talents who will fly the flag of the state in future competitions.





Some of the students who participated in the tournament,  thanked government and the Fidelity Bank for the opportunity provided them to bond and showcase their talents.


Winners and the runners-up were at the end of the tournament, presented with trophies and medals as well as footballs.
